Remodeling Appeal
Our bathrooms are being updated. Installation of new fixtures is nearly complete. The fixtures were provided and installed by modest members who have not yet agreed to release their identity! While they were at it, they gave us a new water heater and fixed the leak under the kitchen sink! We still have work to do. We need to widen the doors, change the stalls, and replace the tile. We will use the money we have collected so far toward these smaller tasks, but we still need financial help. Please contact Rosie or Tracy with your support or suggestions. The word improvement represented just what was needed for our community a hundred years ago, but on the way to the present, a funny thing happened: Modern concepts bypassed us! Most of us living here enjoy the flavor of old Florida without the highrises, shopping malls, and spawling apartment complexes. There are still citrus groves, livestock, colorful roosters,and neighbors helping one another. There are still many homes from the early 1900s. So, the word preservation might suit our name better now than improvement, but we preserve the original name. Look at our current preservation projects HERE.
Who We Are
The White City Improvement Club is a non-profit civic organization whose heritage can be traced back to a time before the turn of the 20th century. It was chartered in 1904 and has served the White City Community and its neighbors faithfully for nearly 100 years.
Many of the White City pioneers had previously attended the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. They were so impressed with Daniel Burnham's Great White City that they named their little colony "White City." They also named the road that ran through the center of town "Midway" after the fair's main entertainment attraction, Midway Plaisance. Read the rest of our history HERE.
